Low Carbon Energy installs solar PV at multiple NHS locations
2021 is already proving itself to be an exceptionally busy year for us here at Low Carbon Energy, as more and more organisations across a range of sectors look to transform the way they power their businesses. A rooftop solar panel installation for CCL Labels is just one example of our recent commercial solar panel projects, but in the last few months we’ve also won two projects for the NHS, in addition to several others for more customers in the health sector.
Supporting the NHS with Low Carbon Energy Solutions
We were appointed by Mace to design and install a bespoke 180kWp solar panel installation for an NHS Blood Transplant Centre in Newcastle, and we’re in the process of installing a 250kWp solar PV system for Singleton Hospital in Swansea. We’re also developing another rooftop installation for Holy Cross, a private hospital.
The increasing frequency of these health-sector projects is an encouraging sign to our experts here at Low Carbon Energy, as it’s a positive indication that the government and public sector organisations are strengthening their resolve to becoming completely carbon neutral within the next few decades.
The NHS has set itself a notably ambitious goal, making it the world’s first national health service to commit to achieving Net Zero by 2030. With luck, national organisations around the world will soon start following suit. Many other individual initiatives are being supported by Salix Finance, which is wholly owned by the government, and provides government funding to public sector organisations to improve energy efficiency.

FAQs
Are solar panels suitable for hospitals?
Yes. Hospitals typically have high daytime electricity demand, making solar PV highly compatible with operational energy use.
How much can NHS trusts save with solar?
Savings depend on system size and site energy consumption, but many public sector installations significantly reduce grid electricity costs over 25 years.
Does solar installation disrupt hospital services?
When properly planned, installation can be completed with minimal disruption through phased works and careful coordination.
How long do solar panels last on NHS buildings?
Most commercial solar panels have performance warranties of 25 years, with operational lifespans often exceeding this.
